Been a huge fan of Dave White and his work for years so when news came out Nike was releasing a pair of Air Jordan 1′s designed by Dave White I had to have em. Well, release date came last week and even with the help of a couple friends I was unsuccessful at getting a pair. That was until my main man Moh over at Studiiyo23 called and said he had found a pair for me! It was love at first sight! So I decided to take my babies out for a photoshoot this morning.

Project 52: Week 7 Custom Lebron “Nerf”

Okay, okay, okay. Last shoe post for awhile. I can’t help it, I FREAKING LOVE SHOES!

One of my favorite shoes released last year was the Kevin Durant IV “Nerf” and I’d seen another customizer do this color-way and I thought it would be cool for me to do the same. So again I took the Lebron 9 and customized my own Nerf’s. This one was alot of fun color blocking and speckling to get the “Nerf” look. Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the results, can’t wait to wear these around town and see how many heads turn.

The first picture below is the original Lebrons, the 2nd picture is the actual Kevin Durant shoe that inspired the look and the rest are my Lebron Nerfs mini phootshoot. I think I’m getting the hang of this photography thing.

Project 52 Week 4 Custom Lebron 9

This is something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile now. I just needed the right sneaker (for the right price) and some JGoods sneaker paint. For my first custom sneaker job I wanted to do something simple. I was a big fan of the Black History Month releases last year so I decided to run with that colorway on these. Basically I repainted the Nike logos, the back of the soles and added some speckles to the mid-soles. Add a lace swap and these look like an all new shoe! Not too bad for a beginner huh?

I have a couple other ideas that I will be doing later so stay tuned for those.

Project 52: Ricky Rubio

Back to the stencils for this weeks project. Seems like a perfect time to post this, 10 minutes after Ricky hit the game trying 3-pointer vs. Los Angeles Clippers.

You’ll see a couple new things I’ve been trying lately. First is the newspaper clippings incorporated in the background. This really makes these pieces 1 of 1 and never alike. Second is the “reverse” style stencil, using the white or highlights, which is different than most of the stencils I’ve been doing.

Project 52: Week 2 Laundry Room Makeover

My next project is something that has been on my “to-do list” for about 2 years. I’ve always wanted a nice, clean place to do laundry. I mean, who wants to wash clothes in a dirty grungy basement? For this project I limited myself to $25 and whatever I could find laying around the house and garage.

First thing that needed to change was the wall color. Out with the “standard” beige/tan in with a light grey. I actually reused some old paint we had laying around and added some black acrylic paint to darken it up. COST: $5 for some paint rollers

Next, we needed to hide some of the junk that was being collected on the shelves. After cleaning out about half of it, which was just junk to begin with, I found some white cardboard boxes from IKEA. Add some photo albums and books we had laying around to add some color. COST: $10 (IKEA Boxes)

Finally, I needed something for the main wall. I found a couple random frames in the garage plus a couple framed stencils that worked perfect for a collage. For the other frames I had cut up a paper sample book and magazine to create a colorful collage. COST: FREE

See the before and after pics for the transformation. AND now we have a nice, clean place to do our laundry. I’m not quitting my day job by any means but its a start.

Project 52: Week 1

1 down, 51 to go! As some of you may know I have a slight (OK, a major) shoe addiction. For this weeks installment of Project 52, I have designed and put together a mini shoe box. The box is 1.5″ tall and a little over 3.5″ wide.

And as a bonus, I’ve included a PDF download for you to make your own. All you’ll need is a x-acto knife (or scissors), a ruler, cutting board and something to put into your shoebox when you are done. I printed mine out on 11″x17″ paper, the thicker the paper the better. Being the sneakerhead that I am, I have a couple mini Jordan I’s in my box. I’d love to see some pics of what you put in your box. Send some pics to
my inbox and I’ll upload them to the blog.

Assembly tip: Score the dotted lines very lightly with an x-acto blade, it makes folding much easier.

Inspired by my beautiful wife over at Sweet Nothings Design I’ve decided to take on a new project, PROJECT 52. Once a week for 2012, I’ll be designing, spraying, photographing, illustrating, painting, glueing, drawing, sewing, staining, creating…you get the idea. Look for a bunch of exciting new creative ideas, not just stencils. Happy New Year!

Minnesota Lynx

My new piece for the WNBA World Champion, Minnesota Lynx featuring our “Big 3″ Lindsay Whalen, Maya Moore and Seimone Augustas.

I’ve been working on trying to hook-up with the players to get this autographed for my collection. As you can see below, I’ve made a little progress. So, if anyone knows a better way to get in contact with the ladies, lets make deal!
